Current Situation
Algeria is located in Northern Africa, it is bordered by Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Morocco. It is part of the Arab league, OPEC, African Union and United Nations. Algeria is defined as an Arab country. Algeria is the victim of Islamic insurgency with guerrilla and terrorist attacks occurring at times following a civil war that lasted from 1992-2002. Algeria is an emerging economy, the high price of oil as advantaged the country and the government is spending the proceeds into infrastructure, industry and agriculture. Foreign investment in Algeria is also increasing. The latest re-election of the President with an overwhelming majority of over 90% of the votes, is however a cause for concern as his opponents might seek other means to gain influence.
