Biography: 



Serzh Sargsyan was born in Stepanakert, Nagarno-Karabakh in 1954. He studied at Yerevan

State University. His early career includes several political posts in the Nagarno-Karabakh

region. When war broke out in 1988, he played a leading role in the war and planned several

battles. In 1993 he became Armenia's defense minister, he held similar posts until he became

prime minister in 2007. 



In 2008 Serzh Sargsyan was elected President of Armenia, he won in the first round of voting

with 53% of the votes. After his victory opposition parties and their supporters held large protests

in the capital Yerevan, the government cracked down on these protests with swift brutality and 8

people were killed. Afterwards he agreed that the government should stop cracking down on

opposition parties.

Tigran Sargsyan was born in Vanadzor, Armenia in 1960, he studied in St. Petersburg. He held

several economic posts for the Armenian government before being named prime minister in 2008

by president Serzh Sargsyan.
