Current Situation
Austria is located in central Europe, it is bordered by Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Austria is a permanently neutral state. Austria is a member of the EU and the United Nations. Austria participates actively in UN peacekeeping missions. Austria has a very high GDP per capita, and its industry and tourism sectors drive the economy. Like other European countries, Austria is struggling to contain its fiscal deficit.
