Biography: 



Georgi Sedefchov Parvanov was born in Sirishtnik, Bulgaria, in 1957. He is the current President

of Bulgaria and was first elected in 2002. He studied at the University of Sofia in history, and

obtained a doctorate of history from the same university. He started his political career as part of

the Bulgarian Communist Party in 1981, who was later renamed to the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

He held the post of chairman of this party for several years, before becoming president in 2002.

Boyko Borisov was born in Bankya, Bulgaria, in 1959. He is the current Prime Minister of

Bulgaria and the 50th to hold this post. He has worked for the Bulgarian government in several

security related positions and also ran his own private security company. He became the mayor of

Sofia in 2005, he left this post in 2009 to run in the general elections and was subsequently

elected as the Prime Minister of Bulgaria following this election. He has been criticized for his

comments regarding Bulgaria's large ethnic minorities.
