He is the current President of Burundi. His education includes a degree in education and sports from the University of Burundi. Pierre and his family like most Burundians were directly affected by the ethnic and civil conflicts caused by the tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi population. He then joined the Hutu faction as a soldier during the civil war. His political party National Council for the Defense of Democracy - Forces for the Defense of Democracy, is a direct descendant of the civil war and represents the Hutu faction.
