He is the illegitimate child of Louis d'Orleans, since his half-brother was captured, Jean was the effective head of the house of Orleans. He joined Charles VI at first, then joined Charles VII to continue the struggle against the English and Burgundians. He joined Joan of Arc at the Siege of Orleans, and also joined her in her Loire Campaign. He remained actively involved after her death in the war against the English.
