Biography
Ali Khamenei was born in Mashhad, Iran, in 1939. He is the current Supreme Leader of Iran. Before becoming Supreme Leader, Ali played an important role in the Islamic Revolution in Iran. He was the President of Iran from 1981 to 1989 before being named supreme leader in 1989 a post he has held ever since. He was the victim of an assassination attempt in 1981, which he survived.
