Current Situation
Iraq is located in the Middle East. Iraq is bordered by Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey. Iraq was invaded by the United States in 2003, this invasion has had negative and positive effects on the country. The negative effects would be a seemingly unending civil violence and the instability that ensues. However since the invasion Iraq's infrastructure has improved, it is taking advantage of its massive oil reserves and has a parliamentary democracy in place, with the latest local elections being held in relative calm in January 2009. The elections have not provided a clear winner and a competition to form the next government continues.
