Biography
Jalal Talabani was born in Silemani, Iraq, in 1933. He is the current President of Iraq. Before becoming president he was active in Kurdish resistance movements, he played a leading role in the struggle for Kurdish autonomy. He was elected president in 2005 by the Iraq National Assembly, and he was re-elected in 2006 under the new constitution.
