Antonio Canaletto was born in Venice, Italy, in 1697. His paintings consisted of scenic views of various cities, his ability to bring so much details into his paintings, is what made him famous and a commercial success. He would be commissioned to make paintings as decorations for the homes of rich patrons. He would later move to England, where he would pursue his style of painting and achieve even greater success. One of his best customers Joseph Smith, would eventually sell his collection of Canaletto paintings to the King of England. Canaletto would eventually return to Venice, where he died in 1768.
