Mwai Kibaki was born in Gatuyani, Kenya, in 1931. He is the current and third President of Kenya. He studied at Makerere University College in Uganda, and the London School of Economics. Before joining politics he worked in the private sector, he was first elected to parliament in 1963. From 1969 to 1981 he served as Minister for Economics, and from 1982 to 1988 he was Minister for Home Affairs and from 1988 to 1991 he was Minister for Health. He was also Vice President of Kenya from 1978 to 1988. He ran for the presidency in 1992 and 1997, but failed in both attempts. He was finally elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2007.
