Lee Myung-bak was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1941. He is the current President of South Korea. He studied at Korea University. Before joining politics he had a successful career in the private sector, where he became CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction. He joined politics in 1992 as a member of parliament before resigning in his second term. He ran in the 2002 Seoul mayoral elections and won. Then he ran in the 2007 presidential elections and won these also.
