Current Situation
Taiwan is located in East Asia. It has no natural neighbours, but has a special relation to China. Taiwan's economy is a very developed industrial economy. Its GDP per capita is comparable to most countries in the European Union. It also holds very large foreign reserves, and had been showing strong growth for several decades until about 2001 when it went into recession, but Taiwan has since recovered and growth is steady again.
