Biography:

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was born in Babarab, Turkmenistan, in 1957. He is the current President of Turkmenistan. He studied at the Turkmen State Medical Institute eventually becoming a dentist. In 1997 he was named Minister of Health, and in 2001 Deputy Prime Minister. He succeeded his predecessor as president in 2006 and was officially elected to the post in 2007.
