It is bordered by Ireland. The United Kingdom is one of the largest economies in the world. It is heavily diversified with many well-known large multi-national companies. The United Kingdom has been hit very heavily by the 2008 global recession, with its banks posting massive losses and the government launching a huge stimulus package. The new Conservative coalition of David Cameron, have reversed this spending trend however, and have imposed severe austerity measures in a hope that they can control the country's finances and reduce the huge deficits left by their predecessors.
